What are we looking for??

Driver/Fleet Manager Trainer (DFT) is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and educating  drivers and Fleet Managers, and for ensuring regulatory and program compliance via monitoring of Event Data Recorder .  The DFT will focus efforts on safety and compliance to keep driver behavior within established company goals and expectations, and will encourage safe CMV operation through training of correct techniques, providing guidance to comply with the FMCSR and assuring drivers meet ATS safety standards.  The DFT will provide education to develop team member skills in an effort to help reduce DOT recordable accidents; lower liability claims costs and maintain acceptable BASIC category scores under the CSA system. The DFT will also provide daily office/clerical support as needed.

Education and Experience

  1. A minimum of a High School diploma with 1-2 years of previous business/corporate experience in a structured environment.
  2. Experience safely driving a tractor-trailer and securing loads.  A current or past CDL is preferred for the knowledge and experiential insight.
  3. Proficient knowledge, or quickly learn, proper driving techniques and regulatory compliance requirements.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  5. Competent using basic computer systems, operating systems and data bases.
  6. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).
  7. Ability to comfortably speak in front of large or small groups primarily for training purposes.
  8. Ability to stay organized and prioritize work as well as adjust as changes/needs occur.
  9. Ability to analyze situations and come to reasonable solutions.
  10. Must be detail oriented and yet see the big picture.
  11. Ability to deal with stressful situations and remain calm.
  12. Learn and understand all of the speed control alerts, including but not limited to accident mitigation technology.
  13. Ability to deal with confidential information in a discrete and diplomatic manner.
  14. Ability to also speak Spanish would be beneficial.
  15. Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Review Data Event Recorder material and educate Fleet Managers on how to proactively & with empathy counsel and communicate with drivers.  Educated and train fleet managers in regard to compliance issues or coach for improved safety in driving techniques.
  2. Observe and report on progress and performance of drivers daily to Fleet Managers and Safety department.
  3. Complete 30, 60, 90 days counseling and provide constructive feedback to new drivers.
  4.  Collaborate with other departments gaining insight and input regarding issues and incidents to make good decisions. Conduct driver evaluations, determine and recommend a course of action, if necessary, such as some type of remedial training, i.e. “Retrain and Retain”.
  5. Consult, educate & train OPS Managers and Fleet Managers to make safety decision in regard to driver behavior and set corrective action to modify driver behaviors.
  6. Present findings, explanations, facts regarding incidents and trends in driver behavior to individuals and or groups.
  7. Coach Fleet Managers how to effectively communicate with drivers regarding safety issues and concerns.
  8.  Resolve issues utilizing pro-active conflict resolution techniques with both contractors, drivers and co - workers. 
  9. Perform various office related tasks to support the needs of the department.

  11. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours and infrequent travel may be required.
