The Transportation Technical Advisor is responsible for providing general technical service to both internal and external customers and in addition, planning projects according to customer specifications/company requirements and serving as a subject matter expert for successful project planning, implementation and execution. This position will assess all technical aspects of a project including, but not limited to, identifying risks, determining mitigation solutions and recommending the safest and most efficient plan for transporting the client’s product to specific sites.

Education and Experience

  1. Associates Degree in business, accounting, engineering, drafting, and/or equivalent work experience in a related field.

  2. Two years of transportation industry experience or project management experience preferred.

  3. Working knowledge of transportation regulations.

  4. Mechanical aptitude to understand trailer capabilities and which equipment to utilize for the specific products/components to be transported.

  5. Working knowledge of construction equipment, including cranes.

  6. Excellent computer (Word, Excel, and Outlook, etc.) skills required and CAD experience and exposure to AutoTURN software is preferred.

  7. Strong interest and drive to use technology in innovative ways.

  8. Ability to identify issues and use critical thinking and problem solving skills to resolve them in a timely manner.

  9. Strong time management and organizational skills to prioritize projects and deadlines.

  10. Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) to work cross-functionally with both internal and external personnel including all management levels in a company.

  11. Ability to give presentations to groups.

  12. Ability to adapt to an ever-changing work environment; able to deal with frequent change, delays, and unexpected events.

  13. Ability to collect, research and analyze data and provide sound recommendations.

  14. Strong mapping skills.

  15. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, work independently and driven to find viable solutions.

Ability to work flexible shifts as needed to meet company deadlines, and travel up to 30% of the time to company or customer locations.Travel may consist of air travel and/or driving.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct site reviews per customer requests and specifications, reviewing major roads and secondary roads to the site identifying potential hazards.

  2. Conduct a route analysis based on equipment and cargo by running swept path analysis using CAD and AutoTURN software.

  3. Determine and recommend risk mitigation options to ensure the safe delivery of product to the customer’s site.

  4. Conduct a physical route survey or engage route surveyors to assess the various route options, visually identifying potential hazards and recommend potential solutions.

  5. Develop a Risk Mitigation Plan for projects and compile all recommendations into a comprehensive Site Review Report that is provided to the customer.The report provides route recommendations, hazards, risk mitigation options, equipment needs, securement methods, permitting requirements, pictures, CAD drawings and all pertinent details required of the project and specifications.

  6. Meet with customers for an initial review of a project and determine scope and expectations.

  7. Advise and provide support throughout the planning, implementation and execution of a project.

  8. Meet with city, county and/or state officials to discuss projects and potential issues regarding permitting, hazards, etc. along with potential solutions.

  9. Meet with the various utility companies to address any issues related to a project that may involve the utility and their services.

  10. As needed for a project, ensure permits are obtained from appropriate government agencies and approvals obtained from affected utility companies and landowners.

  11. Create CAD drawings of storage yard(s) to most effectively utilize space and efficient crane loading and unloading operations.

  12. Create overlay turn drawings and obtain photos of roads and intersections to assist in showing hazards and mitigation.

  13. Determine how a trailer will be configured for a load (axel spacing, dimensions, etc.) and how it will most safely be secured.

  14. Obtain quotes from ATS vendors as needed.

  15. Travel to site locations, customer locations and government offices as needed and work flexible hours to meet company deadlines.

  16. Occasionally perform duties of a Site Supervisor in a fill-in temporary basis.
