The Safety Orientation Training Specialist is responsible to ensure safety compliance by: facilitating on-the-job training with drivers.  This position is responsible to write and update Orientation Safety curriculum; and present safety material  to drivers at orientation on daily and weekly bases.  Additionally, on occasion reviewing and monitoring safety processes, performing accident investigations, assisting with driver counseling and partnering with internal and external customers on equipment safety issues.

   Education and Experience

  1. 2 or 4 year degree in related field and 2-4 years of experience in driver training/facilitation or an equivalent experience.   Smiths System certified.

  2. Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation compliance regulations.

  3. Excellent knowledge of heavy haul tractor/trailer requirements and working knowledge of wind transportation industry or the ability to learn.

  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

  5. Creative mind and talent to create training modules, power points and videos.

  6. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

  7. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  8. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.

  9. Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.

  10. Must be analytical with the ability to apply data.

  11. Must be proficient in responding to internal and external customer situations, responding to customer needs as required.

  12. Must be able to both think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects.

  13. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.

     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Facilitate driver training in the safe operation of tractor equipment, securement and loading skills, and FMSCA regulations and policies.

  2. Complete post-classroom, monthly and annual in-person training with drivers.

  3. Identify & perform training of drivers needing initial and refresher training on processes and equipment.

  4. Teaches value driven driving courses.

  5. Review DOT reportable incidents and accidents and evaluates to determine preventability and implements corrective and/or disciplinary action as needed.

  6. Expert in specialized cargo securement, thus able to teach drivers.

  7. Partners with other departments on safety, equipment, and other issues.

  8. Collaborate with internal and external partners on safety, equipment and compliance issues assisting in the coordination of job-related items when specific safety issues exist.

  9. Provide reporting and statistical evaluations and analysis as needed or requested by partners.

  10. Coordinate the transfer and up-in-class processes.

  12. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and infrequent travel may be required.

  14. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and use dexterity in handling and touching objects or controls.
