Permit/Tax Specialist

To serve the permitting and taxation needs for all company and leased equipment by performing all duties related to the securement of required permits and completing related fuel tax forms

   Education and Experience

  1. A basic understanding of general office procedures (especially those related to Fed Hut tax, and permit procedures) usually gained through 1 to 2 years vocational training and/or equivalent related experience.

  2. Must be detail-oriented and possess basic problem-solving skills as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.

  4. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

  5. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.

  6. Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.

  7. Must be analytical with the ability to apply data.

  8. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  9. Must be proficient in responding to internal and external customer situations, responding to customer needs as required.

  10. Must be able to both think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects.

  11. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs duties related to the securement of licenses and permits for all company and leased equipment

    1. Prepares applications and accompanying paperwork for licensing new units in the fleet, processes title transfers, and obtains and distributes plates/tabs.

    2. Prepares permit books, processes permit orders, including preparing paperwork, recording, and distributing permits/books.

    3. Verifies/approves payment of license application and permit service billings.

    4. Calculates and prepares invoices to receive reimbursement for license fees (when appropriate) and approves payment of permits ordered by drivers.

    5. Assists drivers by assessing needs, answering questions, and investigating and resolving problems (seeks assistance for unique and/or complex situations).

  2. Calculates/completes Highway and Heavy Vehicle Use Tax forms (2290).

  3. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities, as assigned.

  5. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and infrequent travel may be required.

  10. Works within budget that is set for the department.
