1st Shift Maintenance Service Leader

Responsible to coordinate the daily maintenance and repair tractor operations performed   by scheduling,  supervising  shop employees, and by ordering and organizing parts, supplies, records, and files to provide safe, efficient, and quality service to all customers.  This position will interact with drivers, operations, and vendors.

Education and Experience

  1. Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or maintenance related program and/or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in related field e.g. automotive, medium/heavy equipment, tractor repair, etc. -
  2. 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance shop environment.
  3. Experience using OEM software and additional software such as: Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Link, Premium Tech Tool, Mitchell1, Meritor Tool Box, Thermo King for APU, etc. to diagnose and make repairs.
  4. Must have a solid understanding of parts and inventory control usually gained through 1-2 years of training and/or related experience.
  5. DOT and forklift certified preferred.
  6. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) including working knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  7. Must be able to operate related power/shop equipment.
  8. Must be flexible to work varying hours including weekends depending on department needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates all activities associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of assigned equipment/vehicles by scheduling and monitoring mechanics to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  2. Monitors preventative maintenance service and repairs on all assets to ensure it is in safe working condition and in DOT compliance.
  3. Creates work orders and write quotes for lease drivers.
  4. Monitors work in progress and upon completion ensuring work meets required company and DOT maintenance standards.
  5. Verifies that all parts required for the repair have been added to the work orders for correct billing.
  6. Communicates with drivers and/or operations staff regarding the status of vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair jobs.
  7. Issues parts requested by mechanics and enter information into computer system.

  9. May need to cover other shifts and service as a back up during periods of absences
  10. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ATS’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing the work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a shop environment with exposure to noise and fumes and occasionally outside in all weather elements.  The employee frequently is required to stand or walk for long periods of time.  The employee frequently is required to move parts or supplies and has the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. The employee occasionally is required to use finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls; and to reach with hands and arms occasionally.
