Summary

The Maintenance Service Leader is responsible for supervising the staff and assigned area of the shop regarding daily operations by interacting with drivers as they come to the terminal so that all maintenance concerns on both truck and trailers are addressed and properly recorded into the computer system.

Education and Experience

  1. Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or maintenance related program and/or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in related field e.g. automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc.
  2. 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance shop environment is preferred.
  3. Experience using maintenance software such as Meritor Tool Box, Bendix and Haldex is preferred.
  4. Must have a solid understanding of parts and inventory control usually gained through 1-2 years of training and/or related experience.
  5. Must be able to read; be familiar with, and able to reference the current DOT Out of Service regulations.
  6. Must possess high level of stress tolerance and ability to multi-task.
  7. Demonstrated planning, organizing and prioritization skills.
  8. DOT and forklift certified preferred.
  9. Must possess strong customer service, planning, organizing and prioritization skills.
  10. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) including working knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  11. Must be able to operate related power/shop equipment.
  12. Must be flexible to work varying hours including weekends depending on department needs.
  13. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  14. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).
  15. Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate all activities associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of assigned equipment/vehicles by effectively scheduling work and leadership of technicians to ensure job tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  2. Partner with the Shop Manager and Human Resources in the recruiting, interviewing, selection, on-boarding, and training of new employees.
  3. Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals, timely and constructive feedback, coaching for improvement, and progressive discipline.
  4. Monitor preventative maintenance service and repairs on all assets to ensure safe working condition and in DOT compliance.
  5. Monitor work in progress job tasks, ensuring completed work meets required company and DOT maintenance standards.
  6. Serve as a point of escalation and mentorship for complex or unique repairs.
  7. Ensure all job tasks are completed as assigned – verifying that all preventative maintenance and driver items are accurately addressed and that all safety lane tasks documented and assigned.
  8. Serve as the liaison between the technicians and the drivers; providing a high level of customer service while enhancing the driver's experience. 
  9. Verify that all required parts for the repair have been added to the work orders for correct billing.
  10. Ensure all company specific and DOT regulated safety procedures are implemented and followed.
  11. Ensure all preventative maintenance and maintenance service items are completed and all job tasks have been completed/updated or removed from the system prior to the equipment leaving the shop.
  12. Ensure the volume of work produced meets company standards and ensures customer satisfaction.
  13. Communicate with drivers and/or Operations staff regarding the status of vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair jobs.
  14. Issue necessary parts requested by mechanics and enter information into computer system.

  16. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours and infrequent travel may be required.

This position performs work primarily in an office setting however, will need to go on the Shop floor.

  1. Constantly in a stationary position and occasionally will move around.
  2. Constantly operates a keyboard and mouse and constantly utilizes a computer monitor(s).
  3. Constantly conversing with internal and external customers in person or via phone system.
  1. Required to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise and fumes and occasionally outside in cold or hot weather environments.
  2. Required to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  3. Required to frequently lift and/or move parts or supplies that weigh up to 100 pounds.
  4. Required to work occasional Saturdays.
  5. Required to walk occasionally; to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls frequently; and to reach with hands and arms occasionally. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ATS's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
