Driver Safety Counselor
Position Summary
Are you passionate about developing professional drivers and creating a culture of safety? ATS is seeking a Driver Safety Counselor to coach, mentor, and teach professional truck drivers during their first 90 days with the company through our Safety Driven University program.
In this role, you will use your CDL experience, safety knowledge, and coaching skills to help drivers build safe driving habits, improve decision-making, and achieve success on the road. You will review driver performance data, identify coaching opportunities, and provide constructive feedback on topics such as defensive driving, following distance, trip planning, speed management, regulatory compliance, and accident prevention.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys teaching adults, building relationships, and helping professional drivers develop the skills and confidence needed to operate safely and successfully. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance the SAFETY DRIVEN UNIVERSITY program.
- Conduct regular coaching sessions with new drivers and Fleet Managers.
- Review driver performance, safety events, Hours of Service, accidents, and compliance data.
- Monitor driver progress and maintain program reporting.
- Identify safety trends and recommend corrective actions or additional training.
- Deliver training on safe driving practices, compliance, and accident prevention.
- Collaborate with Safety, Operations, and Fleet Management to improve driver performance.
- Assist with road testing and other driver development programs as needed.
- Complete administrative and reporting responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
- Current CDL-A required with tractor-trailer driving experience.
- 3-4 years of business, training, safety, or related experience.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and safe driving practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer systems.
- Strong communication, coaching, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze driver performance data and provide effective feedback.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle challenging situations professionally.
- Occasional overnight travel required.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000.
Base salary is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location, compared to others performing substantially similar work.
